Luther

The movie Luther starts off by Martin Luther is going back home and he is in a thunderstorm.  Luther starts to freak out and then he prays to God and tells him, if he spares his life he will become a monk and spread His Word through out the world.  Then Luther gets saved and he becomes a monk.  Luther believes God is a God of hate and vengeance and tries to destroy everyone who rebukes God's Word.  So then a older monk by the name of Staupitz, who helps mentor Luther in his walk and his life of monk-hood.  Staupitz encourages Luther to talk to Christ instead of talking to him and having him talk to God for him.  After that Luther goes to a school and learns more about God's word.  Then he writes the Ninety-Five Theses and it protests against clerical abuses, especially the sale of indulgences.  Indulgences are the full or partial punishment due for sins in which they have been forgive.  So the Catholic Church, and only the Catholic Church sold papers that you could buy that could either set a family member free or let them get out early of PURGATORY. That's the main purpose why Martin Luther initiated the Protestant Reformation.  After Luther does all theses things, he goes back to Germany and begins to start teaching that he was wrong about God.  That God is a God of love, not a God of hate.  He tries to emphasise the love of God instead of his judgment. Luther was then outlawed by the Emperor Charles the Fifth.  Luther then had to go into hiding.  He had a lot of powerful friends in Germany who hide him for around a year, so he wouldnt be killed.  He then translated the Bible into German for all the people in Germany could read it and interpret it for themselves.


I think Martin Luther was braver than most people because he stood out and told that the Catholic Church was wrong in what they were doing, by tricking the common people to buy indulgences that said they could save friends or family members.  He had a strong belief in God and he stood up for what he believed in when everyone was against him or were on his side but went kinda crazy when they thought he had died.  His downfalls were when he started an up rise because everyone started following what he was saying and people were fighting over the beliefs that the Catholic Church was the true religion or that Luther's teachings were the true religion.  Many people were killed because they "believed the wrong faith" but both of them had great points to them and also had their defaults.  I also thought that the movie portrayed Martin Luther rather well since he supposable talked to the Devil and had incounters with the Devil.  He seemed a little insane but a great spiritual leader.

Martin Luther in the movie had a monk father who supported him in his beginning, but towards the end of the movie it seemed like he was trying to make Luther stop what he was doing because in his eyes, what Luther was doing (tearring the Catholic Church apart) was not the thing to do.  Luther also had many more people turn against for starting the seperation of the Catholic Church.

Dont Waste Your Life Chapter 8

At the beginning of the Chapter its talking about going to "war" against sin, which we all need to be doing but like it says we dont have to go to a foreign country to fight against the devil and sin but we can do it where we are right now in life, at school, at church, and at work (Braum's is were i work at).  We should also know that God is with us all the time when we are working and he will help guide us in our day to day work. An we also need to know that if God sends us to work at Wal-Mart, or at start our own business, we should start and spread God's word for there and show his love to everyone, and its not a worse job than being a preacher or a bible teacher at a high church or job, we all need to spread God's word anywhere and everywhere.  We also need to thank God often, because without him we can not live, walk, talk, eat, or do anything else, so we need to thank him for his help and giving us life to live and having fun.  We also dont need to dread or be lazy during our job cause its not glorifying to God and then we cant show him off to everyone about how great and awesome he is.  Now beavers are very interesting animals, in the book it says the do all their work not self-consciously and we need to do that and not be self-conscious towards ourselves but towards God.  And if you notice when you are done working hard after a long day at work, you are tired and you go home and sleep like a little baby.  So thats what we need to do with God, we need to work hard for him all day and when we are done and are tired we know that we did good today in working for God.  We also need to notice that our work will save no one, but the work of God can save man.  God knows everything, and he will put us in a job that will give us enough money for all our needs. But God also says that if you eat its because you have worked hard and earned it.  Its hard to work not for the money that you will get out of it, but for showing God to everyone that you work with and who you come into contact with.  We should aim insteat to do the will of God, who sent us.  Our job can be a great thing for God if we meet the needs of others in the name of Jesus.  Our mouth needs to be a fountain of life and be good for God and spreading his word.

Secrets people with good deeds

Monday we watched a episode of Secret Millionaire, and this millionaire guy went to Skid Row to see what its like to be homeless and not have any real money.  I noticed that i should be grateful for all the things i have and not take grant for the material things God gave me.  It also opened my eyes to show how poor some of the people are in the United States and how much help there is around the world.  I thought that Skid Row was also just a road with a lot of poor people, violence and drugs, but it showed me that there are people down there trying to help everyone change their lifes show God in their lives and give hope to all the poor people.  There was that one guy that started that 3 on 3 basketball league, and i really liked how he choice a sport to bring people together and try to help everyone in Skid Row.  So i think i need to start thanking God more for the things i have, and finding ways to help all the poor and needy people in the world.

Chapters 6 & 7

Well here are the things that i wrote down for the questions we got.  well i spend my free time mainly just doing things for myself, and then every once in a while i will do stuff for God and others.  and i give some of my money to church but i mean i dont give it all away, and then i am in Boy Scouts (now im a Eagle Scout, haha) and i play sports so i guess you could say i focus on myself most the time.  Mark 10:21, Luke 6:20 and 24, and Luke 18:25 talk about giving away money to the poor and needy, and i just need to think that this money really isnt mine, and that God gave me this so i can use it wisely and there are other people in the world that need this more than i do.  i also learned that you bette be ready to give up everything for God cause he could ask you to do that, and its hard for a rich man to get into heaven because he likes his money more than God.  In matthew 6:33 is probably hardest for me, because i want to make myself comfortable an then seek God, which i shouldnt.

the worst thing about TV is probably the tv shows that show teens getting pregnant and then passing it off as if its no big deal.  3 ways that tv negatively is 1. probably showing worthless products that dont do anything for me an just give them more money, 2.it messes up my mind with all the random stuff that the half, 3. and it keeps my buys when i could be doing some productive other than just wasting time. and that i spend a lot more time watching tv than i do with God, which is sad

Movie?

The movie we watched was about a guy walking around an the guy talking about how stupid some christians are an how we evanglises to people. and he went around asking people what they thought of christians and some of the comments people said were kinda shocking, saying christians are stupid and how we turn more people away from God instead of towards God.  and i liked how he appologized to all th gay people because we should love them and treat them right even if they are kinda weird and different cause God says we need to love everyone and treat others as we would like to be treated.

Jesus Camp or something else?

So we all remember the crazy video we watched, Jesus Camp? kinda weird. But i have a few things to say about it.  The good things are, in the beginning at the bowling alley when the little girl went over to pray over that one girl, i thought that was a really cool thing. (and what i have also noticed is that sometimes God has non-believers come talk to you, because this summer my youth group and i carried crosses around everywhere we went and i noticed there are some groups of people. 1-some people just stare at you an make fun of you, 2-some are like, hey he is a christian but i don't want to go talk to him, and 3-some people will walk up to you an ask you why your carrying the cross around.) so i thought the girl did a good thing there. i also like how they are reaching out mainly to children, and trying to bring them to God, and closer to God. I have to also say that when the lady starts off the camp talking about sin is a good thing to start children off with, and showing them how to try and stop from sinning and finding ways to get around sin and how the devil tempts you everyday. when the rat tail kid starting preaching, i thought that was really cool that younger people are starting to take a more act in church and starting to lead worship. i also liked when the lady said that we are sometimes hypocrites because we are one way at church and then another way at school or with some friends, i think she was right that we need to be the same all the time, everyday of our life.  Now the things i didn't like about the movie.  the dead church thing ticked me off a little, because that's how my church is sometimes, where we sit down and sing to God and listen to a preacher, cause i believe you can worship God anyway and every way possible, that even means sitting down and some people don't have good voices so they don't like to sing that loud. an i thought the part when she said, "if Harry Potter was in the Old testament, he would have been put to death." i think that's hilarious cause one, harry potter is just some made up world that everyone likes and i really don't think harry potter is that bad, except if you take it over board and actually believe you can become a wizard, then i would say you need to see a doctor or something.  an also that Ted Haggard dude, he just kinda creepy me out, just straight up weird, and that's coming from me.

Chapter 3 - Dont Waste Ya Life

1. It could be doing something with the help of God, or maybe if you prayed for someone to be healed an it happened then you could boast.  Not boasting about something that i know im better at.

2. Its kinda confusing but if you really think about it, you will see that your old self without God is dead and now your new life with Christ is alive.  key words are - Christ who lives in me.

3. That my dad will be safe and he will take care of my dad while he is out of town.
Probably my life, cause i kinda want to be in control of what happens in my life but i know that i have to give it all to God
